Seminar by Gérard Assayag from IRCAM

01.02.2010

On Thursday February 4th 2010 at 3:30pm, Gérard Assayag, from the Music Representation Group of IRCAM, will give a seminar on the recent research of his team on symbolic music computing. The seminar will be in room 52.321

Abstract: The lecture will present recent works by the Music Representation team at Ircam. We have been primarily involved in symbolic music computing, and we have designed the OpenMusic visual language for composition and computational musicology. As the sound and music computing research area progresses, efforts are made by the signal community to provide more and more high-level descriptions (perceptive/cognitive level) and efforts are made by the symbolic computing community to get closer to the physical / perceptive reality. The Music Representation team has followed this evolution. There are many places now where things join together in order to provide fine intertwinning between music logics, signal technology and interaction. A by-product of OpenMusic and Max, the OMax computer improvisation system that I have designed with colleagues G. Bloch, M. Chemillier and S. Dubnov is a good example of what we call sign/signal integration.
