Seminar by Enric Guaus on the analysis of the left hand fingering in guitar playing

09.11.2010

On Thursday November 11th at 3:30pm in room 52.321 Enric Guaus gives a research seminar on "Analyzing left hand fingering in guitar playing".

Abstract: The main goal of this research is the understanding of the expressive resources used by guitar players. We are interested in analyzing and modeling the use of these expressive resources considering the musical structure of a piece, its musical genre, and the personal traits of the players. We plan a multimodal approach to study the phenomenon, that is, our research combines audio analysis together with gesture analysis. This talk is centered in the analysis and modeling of left hand articulations in a guitar performance. We describe the gesture analysis performed from collected data using a gesture acquisition system specially developed. The study, is divided in two parts: (a) Study of collected left hand articulations, and (b) Fingering analysis for the most commonly played chords. More info can be found here.
