Joan Serrà Julià (Riudarenes, 1980) obtained both the degrees of Telecommunications and Electronics at Enginyeria La Salle, Universitat Ramón Llull (URL) in 2002 and 2004, respectively. After working from 2005 to 2006 at the research and development department of Music Intelligence Solutions Inc, he enrolled in Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), where he received the MSc in Information, Communication, and Audiovisual Media Technologies in 2007. He is currently a researcher and a PhD candidate with the Music Technology Group of the UPF. He is also part of the research and teaching staff of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of the same university. Recently, he has been a guest scientist with the research group on Nonlinear Dynamics and Time Series Analysis at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPIPKS).

His research interests include music retrieval and understanding, signal processing, linear and nonlinear time series analysis/modeling, complex networks, data mining and visualization, music perception and cognition, machine learning, and information retrieval.
