AbstractModeling expressive music performance is one of the most challenging aspects of computer music. In this paper we investigate the use of rule induction methods for mining monophonic Jazz standards recordings by a skilled saxophone player. In particular, we propose a rule induction algorithm which produces good prediction accuracy while allowing a straightforward interpretation of the prediction model. We implement a tool for automatic expressive performance transformations of Jazz melodies using the induced model.
